Samantha and Mick have owned the old Brooklands church for a while, as a small weekender, and would like it to be more substantial, with the possibility of allowing others to use it. Brooklands is 20 minutes south of Kingaroy and is a bit of a crossroads between other places in the district. The site is very generous, so a spread out building was considered immediately.
Much design work was done, but project was put on hold, so the scheme is now a concept on our website. It is such a fun idea and we thought why not make some renders to show people what can be done with a small old country church.
Essentially the idea is to retain the church and its charm and converting it to a bedroom pavilion and then add a modern pavilion which is a generous living zone with an entry linking the two buildings. A 2-car garage and carport is off to the side.
Because the road is a little bit busy, we pushed the pavilion a little bit away from the church and off at a diagonal, which also has the added benefit of having large highlight north facing windows. Brooklands can get pretty cold in winter, so this is essential. Summer can be fairly warm as well so cross ventilation through the pavilion has been thought about with windows on all sides. The deck is even further from the road intersection and is the link to an above ground concrete tank style pool.
The church would only receive some walls and a dropped ceiling to obtain good insulation and decent lighting. The original stepped up altar zone is now the raised bed platform for bunk beds for all the kids. Our owners felt a single bathroom is sufficient, as the original ablutions facility can still function.
The pavilion and car structures have simple skillion style rooves, so that they look distinctly different to the church, which follows heritage principals.
