What do you do when the pool is a marathon walk from the house? Not to mention the cars are not under cover.
Well, add a deck that links the house and covers the cars.
Sounds simple. The result is wonderful, but there were some difficulties to overcome.
For instance, the acreage site had never had a DFP (Development Footprint Plan) placed on it which it must have for any ‘new’ building work. We sorted that in conjunction with our wonderful Town Planner. Also, no bushfire planning had been needed 20 years ago, but had to be dealt with now – our good certifiers assisted here, along with our specialist bushfire assessor. What we were envisaging needed some intense thinking from our clever Engineer, followed by practical considerations from our marvellous builder.
The site is huge with a long drive to the house. But the building looked like it was not finished and had a very blunt northern end.
The house needed better outside covered space than the long narrow verandah. If a deck was added, our clients (and ourselves) were after something that matched the house.
We met the considerable challenge of providing cover over an added deck by utilizing a pitched roof that tied into the existing roof without compromising the large glazed gable.
We also placed a dutch gable in the roof with all timbers exposed so it felt like it was matching the existing verandah roof.
Much thought went into how to tie the pool into the addition, and provide car cover. We cross checked turning circles to ensure cars could fit. We even designed a special roof under the deck to prevent rain onto the vehicles.
The clients love their enormous deck & carport as the property now feels complete and homogeneous.
